How to Obtain Shades of One Color
How do we use the color wheel for this?
Let's choose one of the primary colors, let's say red. To the right of it is yellow. If we add yellow to red in very small portions, the color will become warmer and gradually approach orange.
And if, having obtained orange, we continue to add yellow? Guessed it? The color will gradually approach and become similar to yellow.
And if we do the opposite? Let's take pure yellow and start adding red in small portions? Gradually, yellow will approach orange, then turn into terracotta, and then turn into red.
And now let's take our old good red and go to the left, closer to blue. The color will gradually turn into burgundy, then into purple, and then almost into blue.
The same can be done with the other two colors.
Try it out!
I remind you, start with blue cobalt, neutral red, and yellow (but not lemon).
Summary
Different shades can be obtained by mixing them in different proportions with the other colors of the triad.
